The Germania Mint Launches a New Series with The Valkyries

Female warriors and allegorical figures are a fixture of the silver round collections available from the Germania Mint. In 2019, the Germania Mint first issued silver rounds with an effigy of Germania, the female allegory representative of the Germanic people. As the success of the mint has grown, so too have the options available from the mint in terms of design. One of the newest options is The Valkyries, a series celebrating the female warriors and daughters of Odin. Meet Hildegard in the first release of this new series of Germania Mint Silver Rounds!

    The Protector of Men

On the obverse side of the new 2022 1 oz Germania Valkyries Hildegard Silver Round, you will find the depiction of a powerful female warrior. Known as Hildegard, she is the Protector of Men and is shown in front-facing relief with a shield in her right hand and a long spear in her left. She is accompanied by Fenrir the wolf. The background field shows a fortress stronghold with a large palisade wall. This fortress is set in the woods and you can see the moon rising into the night sky in the distance.

    New Reverse Design

The reverse side of 2022 Germania Valkyries Hildegard Silver Rounds offers a new design from the Germania Mint. This design is a departure from the use of only the Germania Mint seal or its coat of arms. Instead, this new design element for the Valkyries Series offers a glimpse of a wooden shield design in the background. Set against this backdrop, you will see a wolf with its head raised as it howls and the double-headed eagle seal of the Germania Mint.

    Packaging and Details

Each 2022 1 oz Germania Valkyries Hildegard Silver Round available from JM Bullion comes with a protective plastic capsule. The rounds in this series come with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Germania Mint and a limited mintage of only 25,000 rounds in total. The designs of the Valkyrie and the reverse field come from artist Mateusz Frackowiak.

    History of the Valkyrie

In Norse and Germanic mythology, the Valkyrie were a collection of female warrior maidens. These women were responsible for riding their mighty war steeds in the skies over the battles of mankind. It was up to the Valkyrie to not only determine who lives and who died, but also to determine who would die an honorable death and join Odin, their father, in Valhalla, and who would meet a grimmer fate.
