Disney Silver Coins Available from JM Bullion

If there’s anything more popular than investing in gold and silver in the 21st century, it is the ever-present image and power of Disney. Powered for nearly a century by the lovable image of a mouse, Disney has grown from its cartoon base of simple characters and princesses to include a vast array of theme parks, films, and merchandise products.

Combining these two in-demand products together on a regular basis, mints and refineries around the globe are beginning to introduce silver collectible coins featuring the images of some of the most beloved characters from numerous Disney franchises. Among the most popular and visible items are those bearing the image of Mickey Mouse, but one of the strongest franchises for Disney are its many princess-themed films.

Whether it’s the lovable Mickey Mouse or the fairy tale stories of Disney Princesses, old and new, Disney Silver Coins are gaining popularity at the moment for their beautiful design and impressive silver content.

Disney Frozen’s Magic of the Northern Lights Series

The first Disney Silver Coin series to focus solely on one film from its beloved collection of princess-themed animated classics is the Frozen-inspired Magic of the Northern Lights Series. This five-coin series from the New Zealand Mint is set to feature all of the major characters from the beloved Norse princess film. Each of the releases in the series shares a set of commonalities that you’ll find across the various designs, including:

    • Maximum mintages set at 10,000 coins per design release.
    • Coins arrive encapsulated in plastic inside of a storybook-themed case with full-color artwork from the feature film Frozen.
    • Certificate of Authenticity included.
    • 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
    • Each coin bears a face value of 2 Dollars (NZD) and is legal tender in Niue.

The obverse side of each of the coins in this series features the familiar right-profile portrait of England’s Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s image was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, and represents the fourth-generation portrait of the Queen to feature on commonwealth coinage during her reign. Engravings include the nation of issue, year of issue, and face value of the coin.

On the reverse of each Frozen Disney Silver Coins you’ll find a different colorized image representing one of the major characters from the film. To date, just three releases are available and those designs include the following:

    • Queen Elsa (1st release): The reverse of the 2016 1 oz Niue Silver Disney Princess Elsa Coin features another queen with a little more magic in her bag of tricks. Queen Elsa is captured with the brilliant, colorized Northern Lights in the sky behind her, with her blue dress and long, snow-white hair all captured in real-life hues.
    • Princess Anna (2nd Release): On the reverse of the 2016 1 oz Niue Silver Disney Princess Anna Coin is the colorized image of Anna, wearing her familiar clothing from the film with full color. The background of the top half of the coin’s reverse features the beautiful, full-color appearance of the Northern Lights.
    • Olaf the Snowman (3rd Release): On the reverse of the 2016 1 oz Niue Silver Disney Frozen Olaf Coin you’ll find the image of the happy, laughable snowman Olaf from Frozen. Olaf is captured in brilliant color, and the background shows flashes of the Northern Lights, with the bottom third of the coin maintaining its silver finish.
    • Kristoff and Sven (4th release): Kristoff is at first an antagonist to Anna’s character, but the two eventually form a storybook love with a few nudges along the way from Kristoff’s friendly work pal: Sven the reindeer. The duo feature on the reverse of the fourth release.
    • Anna & Elsa (Final release): In the fifth and final design in the collection, Anna and Elsa come together as sisters standing back to back on the coin’s reverse.

    Mickey Through the Ages Collection

The Mickey Mouse Through the Ages release of coins is part of the larger Disney Classics coins, also from the New Zealand Mint.

The collection follows the changing looks and roles played by Mickey Mouse in some of Walt Disney’s earliest animated classics. Many children of the modern generation have never seen Mickey as he is depicted in these designs, but collectors and investors from other generations can certainly appreciate the nearly 90-year history of America’s most beloved mouse. Designs in the series include:

    • Mickey’s Delayed Date – The Disney animated short Mickey’s Delayed Date debuted in 1947 and featured Mickey running in a tuxedo to try and make his date with Minnie Mouse.
    • The Gallopin’ Gaucho – One of the first features with Mickey Mouse, The Gallopin’ Gaucho debuted in 1928 and depicted Mickey as a South American hero who falls in love with Minnie Mouse in a Cantina in Argentina.
    • The Band Concert – Released in 1935, The Band Concert was the first Mickey Mouse short produced in color. The film follows Mickey as a band instructor frustrated by wannabe flute player and current concessions vendor Donald Duck who constantly interrupts his band practice.
    • Plane Crazy – Another early release, Mickey was at his whacky best in Plane Crazy in 1928. Mickey builds himself a rickety plane of used parts on a farm and then invites Minnie onboard for a flight.
    • Fantasia – Produced in 1940, Fantasia was an iconic Disney film on the level of orchestral performances. The symphony behind the animation was beautiful and the film remains popular to this day.
    • Brave Little Tailor – When it was produced in 1938, The Brave Little Tailor was the most elaborate and expensive Mickey Mouse film ever made and earned an Academy Award nomination the following year.

The coins in the Mickey Through the Ages collection feature just one silver option along with three gold coins. The 1 oz silver coins have a mintage of 10,000, while the gold coins have mintages of 500 coins (1 oz), 1,000 coins (1/4 oz), and 5,000 coins (1/2 Gram).

    Disney Cars Collection

Cars is one of the most popular franchises in recent history for Disney and Pixar animations. The initial movie spawned two sequels (Cars 2 and Cars 3), as well as a spinoff in the form of Planes. The Cars Collection from the New Zealand Mint featured all the favorite characters from the two original Cars films:

    • Tow Mater – The lovable, affable two truck is Lightning McQueen’s best friend
    • Lightning McQueen – The brash young racer finds himself in trouble in a small town in California. Upset by the encounter, he benefits in the end from a mentor (Doc Hudson) who once raced on the same circuit during its infancy.
    • Doc Hudson – A small-town judge when the film opens, you eventually learn that Doc is a legendary racer on the Piston Cup Circuit and McQueen finds himself learning more than he though he ever could from the venerable racer.
    • Sally – Lightning McQueen’s love interest, Sally is a sleek Porsche and the whip-smart lawyer in Radiator Springs who happens to also own a local hotel.

Each of the Cars Collection coins has a limited mintage of 10,000 coins and features 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver. The coins ship in Perspex coin cases with a Certificate of Authenticity, and each one features a colorized finish for the Cars character on the reverse.
