Celebrate Feminine Power with the Women In History Series

Offered by the New Zealand Mint on behalf of the island nation of Niue, the Women In History Series is a collection of 1 oz silver coins with colorized images of some of the most famous and powerful women in world history. The collection launched in 2022 and features three different images to date. Explore this new collection of Niue silver coins this week at JM Bullion.

    Obverse Design

On the obverse of each coin in the Colorized Niue Silver Women in History Series, you will find the Public Seal of Niue. The Public Seal of Niue features several symbolic elements that represent the culture, history, and natural beauty of the island nation. Among those visuals, you’ll find elements such as a coconut palm tree and the national motto. The coconut palm tree is an iconic symbol of Niue’s natural environment. It represents the lush tropical landscape and the importance of coconuts in the daily life and economy of the island. The seal typically includes the national motto of Niue, “Takitaki hifo mai na, to fakamanatu ki tua” which translates to “Coming together under one purpose for the future.” This motto encapsulates the unity, determination, and aspirations of the Niuean people.

    Reverse Visual Options

The reverse of each coin in the Colorized Silver Women in History Series comes with a different image of one of the women to feature in the series so far. To date, the collection includes:

    • 2022 Boudicca – this design captures a stoic look at the famous Celtic warrior who defied the Roman Empire and sparked a rebellion in the British Isles.
    • 2022 Marie Curie – in this design, the scientific pioneer is rendered in a beautiful portrait.
    • 2023 Cleopatra – for the third issue of the series, one of ancient history’s most powerful women is depicted in the colorized image of Cleopatra, the Egyptian leader who guided the empire through the end of the Hellenistic period in Egyptian history.

    Series Details

Each coin issued in this series comes with a protective plastic capsule and a beautiful presentation box. Both the presentation box and the outer shipper have a Women in History-themed design. History of the Women in this Series

Cleopatra was the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, known for her exceptional beauty and intelligence. She skillfully navigated the political landscape of ancient Rome, captivating the hearts of powerful men such as Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Her reign was marked by her ambition, strategic prowess, and efforts to maintain the independence of Egypt, making her one of the most legendary figures in history.

Marie Curie was a pioneering scientist and the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. Her groundbreaking research in the field of radioactivity revolutionized our understanding of physics and chemistry. Alongside her husband, Pierre Curie, she discovered the elements polonium and radium, and her work laid the foundation for modern advancements in medicine and nuclear energy. Curie’s unwavering dedication to science, despite facing gender discrimination, makes her an enduring symbol of female empowerment in the scientific community.

Boudicca, also known as Boadicea, was a queen of the Celtic Iceni tribe in ancient Britain. She led a fierce rebellion against the Roman Empire in AD 60 or 61, after the Romans violated a treaty and subjected her to humiliation. Boudicca rallied other tribes and launched a series of attacks, successfully capturing and destroying several Roman settlements. Although ultimately defeated, her bravery and defiance against Roman rule left an indelible mark on history, solidifying her status as a symbol of Celtic resistance and female leadership.
