When gold and silver coining resumed at the US Mint in the 1980s, the American Gold Eagle was among the first and remains the longest-running gold bullion coin from the mint. In 2006, the US Mint introduced the Burnished Series. Though it initially offered the Burnished Gold Eagles in fractional ounces, it no longer does so as of the 2011 resumption of the series after a two-year hiatus. Over time, Certified Gold Eagles from all three versions have become popular with both investors and collectors.
For the obverse field of 2024 1 oz Gold Eagle Coins, the US Mint features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ depiction of Lady Liberty. This design was created in 1907 and features the full-length figure of Liberty in front-facing relief.
In the reverse design of 2024 American Gold Eagles, the mint now features a depiction of the American bald eagle in left-profile relief as designed by Jennie Norris. Ms. Norris created this design in 2020 and it debuted during the 35th anniversary of the series in mid-2021.
