The first fractional-weight Proof American Gold Eagle coin introduced by the United States Mint was the 1/2 oz gold coin. When the Proof American Gold Eagle coins debuted from the United States Mint, the 1986 issue year included only the 1 oz coin. Fractional weights were rolled out in 1987 and 1988, with the 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle introduced by itself in 1987. That year it sold 143,398 coins, a figure that is fourth highest overall in the history of the Proof Gold Eagles behind the first two issues of the 1 oz coin and the debut issue of the 1/10 oz coin a year later in 1988.
On the obverse of 2019 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coins is the design of Lady Liberty. This front-facing relief captures a confident Liberty guiding the nation into the future as she marches from Washington DC with her torch and olive branch in hand.
The reverse of 2019 Proof Gold Eagles features the exclusive Miley Busiek design. Found only on the Gold Eagles, this design captures a male eagle flying over a nest that contains a female eagle guarding a hatchling.
These 2019 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins are available as perfect specimens from the PCGS. Any coin with a PR70 certification has full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws of any kind present on the coin. The included DCAM label stands for deep-cameo and refers to the visual brilliance of the coin. Its proof strike delivers strong, frosted matte designs and deeply-mirrored, clear backgrounds.
