These particular Indian Gold Half Eagles have a lustrous appearance with satin visuals and a warm, honey-apricot color to the gold throughout the field.
The 1913-S Indian Gold Half Eagle is an important coin in the history of this series. Its low original mintage from the San Francisco Mint, combined with its age, make it the ninth rarest of the 24 circulation strikes for the Indian Half Eagle among those specimens known to exist in Mint State condition.
For the obverse of the 1913-S Indian Gold Half Eagle, the US Mint features a portrait of an indigenous figure in left-profile relief. Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, this visual was among the first of an indigenous figure in the history of American currency.
On the reverse of 1913-S $5 Indian Half Eagles, you’ll find the image of the American bald eagle. The bird is perched on a sheaf of arrows that is wrapped in an olive branch. The bird is in left-profile relief with its wings at its sides. Both design elements are stamped incuse into the coin’s surface.
