The Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin is one of the most well-represented in the hoard of Pre-33 US Gold Coins known as the Fairmont Collection. Produced more than a century ago, Fairmont Collection coins are specimens that were used in international commerce and spent the last century-plus overseas before being repatriated to the United States. Now, 1890-CC $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins are available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Liberty Gold Double Eagles were first issued as pattern coins in 1849, with circulation production starting in 1850. The Carson City Mint issued the coins annually from its opening in 1870 until 1879. The Carson City Mint did not issue Double Eagles in 1880, 1881, or between 1886 and 1888.
As Fairmont Collection specimens, these coins were discovered as part of a hoard of Pre-33 US Gold Coins repatriated to the United States from other banks around the world. This repatriation began in the late-2010s, with a very limited number of those coins earning Mint State grades.
Lady Liberty is on the obverse of the 1890 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin. The design was created in 1849 by James B. Longacre and shows Liberty in left-profile relief with a coronet crown. The Great Seal of the United States features on the reverse of 1890-CC Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins. This image shows the heraldic eagle with ornate additions, including sunrays connecting the wing tips.
Longacre’s design of the Liberty Gold Double Eagle was the longest used of the two designs to grace the $20 Double Eagle. His images were modified versions of Christian Gobrecht’s 1838 design for the $10 Eagle. Gobrecht was the 3rd Chief Engraver of the US Mint between 1840 and his death 1844, with Longacre succeeding him in 1844 and serving until his death.
These 1890-CC $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins are available to you for purchase in Mint State 61 condition. Coins in this condition showcase impaired mint luster with clusters of contact marks and noticeable hairlines.
