The front-facing portrait of Liberty, designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, is the obverse design element seen on Burnished American Gold Eagles. It depicts Liberty holding a torch and an olive branch, with sun rays, the U.S. Capitol Building, and stars surrounding her figure in the background.
Burnished Gold Eagles’ reverse designs showcase either Miley Busiek’s family of bald eagles design or the new portrait of an American bald eagle. The former is the more frequently used design and is available on all date marks up to mid-2021, while the latter is only present on coins issued from 2021 Type 2 and later.
