The 1885 release of Morgan Silver Dollars by the Carson City Mint is a memorable issue in the history of the series. There were no special mint marks or anniversary inclusions in the design. However, 1885 did mark the end of consecutive coining of the Morgan Dollars at the Carson City Mint and is also remembered as the lowest-minted date mark in the series. Now, 1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollars from the GSA are available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.

The Carson City Mint was established by the United States Mint as a branch facility that would use silver sourced from the silver lodes discovered in Nevada and neighboring regions of the American West. Although the Carson City Mint did produce some gold coins for the US Mint, the vast majority of the coins it produced were silver coins.
In operation from 1870-1885 and 1889-1893, the Carson City Mint was one of the original, primary production sites for the Morgan Silver Dollar. From 1878 when the coin was introduced until 1885, the Carson City Mint was involved in coining the Morgan Dollars each year. Its streak of consecutive coining years ended in 1886 when the Carson City Mint suspended operations from 1886-1888. Not only was 1885 the end of consecutive coining for Morgan Dollars at the facility, it was also the lowest production year for the Morgan Silver Dollar at the mint.
The obverse of 1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins features a left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty. This bust of Liberty comes with a coronet and a wreath crown in her hair. On the reverse side of Morgan Silver Dollars is a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. It features a front-facing American bald eagle with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
With an original mintage of just 238,000 coins, the 1885-CC Morgan Dollar was a rare specimen to begin with. In the 20th century, collectors got a second chance at purchasing this coin following the discovery of vast stores of uncirculated Morgan Silver Dollars in US Treasury vaults in the 1960s. When the Government Services Administration audited the coins, it found 148,300 coins from 1885. Released through public auctions in the 1970s and the early 1980s, these coins represented 62% of the original production from 1885.
These 1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollars are available to you with the original packaging from the GSA. Each coin is set within a hard plastic holder with a background card.
