The Proof American Platinum Eagle Coin is the only major bullion series from the US Mint to use new reverse design elements each year. The annual series offers a static design on the obverse and reverse in its Brilliant Uncirculated series, but the proof collection offered new reverse designs each year from 1997 to 2017, later switching to new obverse designs from 2018 to 2020. Today, 1/2 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins are available to you with random dates online from JM Bullion.

The American Platinum Eagle Series debuted at the United States Mint in 1997. The series initially offered Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof versions in four weights. Like the Gold Eagle, the Platinum Eagle initially had 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins available in its BU and Proof series. However, those three fractional-ounce coins were permanently suspended after the 2008 release.
All of the 1/2 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins in this listing are available to you with a protective plastic capsule only and do not have the original box and Certificate of Authenticity available. The coins come from random years of issue, with possible date marks including 1997 to 2008. Additionally, the coins will have a different reverse design based on the date mark.
JM Bullion selects your 1/2 oz Proof Platinum Eagle at random after your payment has processed. We cannot guarantee the design and date of your coin in advance. If you buy more than one, please note you could receive coins with the same dates and designs.
On the obverse of all Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins is an image of the Statue of Liberty. The design focuses on her face as it gazes off into the distance. Her hand reaches up out of view holding a torch. This design was created exclusively for this series in 1997 by John Mercanti.
The reverse side of 1/2 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins comes with a new design for each date mark. For most of its history, the Proof Platinum Eagle Series has had a specific design program covering certain release periods. The 1997 coin debuted with the same reverse as the debut BU coin, while the coins issued from 1998 to 2002 have varying designs in the Vistas of Liberty Series. Each one depicts the American bald eagle soaring over a different landscape in the United States.
