The Australian Lunar Series III coins come with different options between the gold and silver programs. The gold program offers a 10 oz gold coin alongside 1 oz and fractional-ounce gold coins. Each of the 2024 5 oz Australian Silver Lunar Dragon Coins available here comes in an acrylic capsule. The 5 oz coins have an unlimited mintage, meaning that Perth Mint will continue to strike the coins through 2024. This coin is near the middle of the series, falling below the 10 Kilo and 1 Kilo coins, but above the 2 oz, 1 oz, and 1/2 oz silver coins.
For the 2024 Lunar Series III release, Perth Mint includes a special P125 mint mark on the coins. This mint mark celebrates the 125th anniversary of the founding of Perth Mint. When it opened in 1899, Perth Mint was the third and final addition to the Royal Mint branch system in Australia.
Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of the 2024 Australian Silver Lunar Dragon. The Queen is shown here in right-profile relief in a 2015 design from Jody Clark. This is the sixth bust of the Queen to feature on Australian coins and is the last that will be used following the Queen’s passing in September 2022.
For the reverse side of the 2024 5 oz Silver Lunar Dragon, Perth Mint features a new design from Ing Ing Jong capturing the Chinese dragon. The dragon is shown with its head in front-facing relief at the top of a coiled body. The dragon’s mouth spills forth a bounty of water for the land.
