The dragon represents the 5^th overall animal in the Chinese Calendar. This lunisolar calendar features 12 animals—one for each year—until the cycle begins anew. As such, 2024 marks the first dragon year since 2012. The dragon is unique in that it is the only animal of the lunar cycle considered mythical. Also of note is that this is the Eastern dragon, meaning it represents positive qualities such as good fortune and health. If you were born in the auspicious Year of the Dragon, you too could possess such qualities.

The notes were selected from crisp, untouched Federal Reserve packs and received proprietary visual enhancements at The Merrick Mint. The obverse of 2024 Year of the Dragon Polychrome Dragon Legal Tender Notes features Thomas Jefferson set against a red Lunar New Year backdrop. The design also features 8 polychromatic Chinese dragons scattered across the field.

On the reverse of 2024 $2 Polychrome Dragon Legal Tender Notes there is a replication of the classic Declaration of Independence oil painting. This masterpiece was completed by John Trumbull in the 19^th century and is currently housed at the U.S. Capitol.
