Again in 2024, Perth Mint has entrusted Ing Ing Jong with the design of its Lunar Series III coins. Ms. Jong has worked with Perth Mint as an artist since 2011 and made her first contribution to a lunar collection in 2013 with the Year of the Snake design in Lunar Series II. For the 2024 Year of the Dragon, she created the artwork for the silver and gold coins, with the gold imagery featured on the platinum coin.

All of these 2024 2 oz Australian Gold Lunar Dragons are available to purchase with protective capsules. The coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and boast an unlimited mintage, indicating that Perth will strike the coins through the end of 2024. This year’s release includes a special P125 mint mark honoring the 125th anniversary of Perth Mint’s founding in 1899.

On the obverse of the 2024 Australian Gold Lunar Dragon Coins, you will find the image of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Perth Mint continues its Lunar Series III program in 2024 with Elizabeth II on the obverse of the coins in the 2015 design from Jody Clark. This right-profile relief shows the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem.

The reverse side of 2024 2 oz Gold Lunar Dragons comes with a depiction of the Chinese dragon. The Chinese dragon is not portrayed as a fearsome, fire-breathing creature like in Western mythology. Instead, it is a benevolent and powerful being associated with water, rain, and agriculture. It is often depicted as a long, serpentine creature with antler-like horns and the ability to control the weather. This side includes the aforementioned anniversary mint mark and a micro-engraved security element.
