The decision to feature the kangaroo was influenced by its iconic status as a symbol of Australia.
In 2024, the 1 oz Silver Kangaroo becomes one of the last major bullion coins at Perth Mint to feature the first-ever bust of His Majesty King Charles III on its obverse. The new portrait of the king was created by Daniel Thorne.
For the obverse of the 2024 1 oz Silver Kangaroo Coin, you will find this all-new portrait of His Majesty. Charles III is shown in left-profile relief wearing a suit and is depicted without a crown on his head. The lack of a crown is common in currency portraits of male monarchs, and his left-profile relief carries on the tradition of alternating the orientation of monarch portraits following his mother’s right-profile portraits throughout her reign.
In the reverse design of 2024 Australian Silver Kangaroos, the mint features the image of a kangaroo. The marsupial is shown in left-profile relief leaping across the design field with stylized sun rays filling the background element.
