The 2023 release of modern Peace Silver Dollar bullion coins includes three options for collectors. One of those options is a traditional proof with frosted designs and mirrored fields. These coins were struck by the San Francisco Mint and are available with a limited mintage for the year. After 1935, no Peace Silver Dollars were struck for circulation purposes. However, in 1965, the U.S. Mint struck a limited number of Peace Dollars for collectors using original dies. These coins were not released into circulation but were sold to collectors directly. The 2021 revival of the Peace Dollar design means modern collectors have the ability to own this beautiful design once again.
The obverse side of 2023 Proof Peace Silver Dollars comes with a depiction of Lady Liberty. Designed by Anthony de Francisci, this image shows Liberty’s left-profile bust with a radiant crown of light on her head and free-flowing hair.
On the reverse side of the 2023-S Proof Peace Dollar, you will find de Francisci’s image of an American bald eagle. This eagle is perched at rest on a cliff edge with its wings at its side and its talons clutching an olive branch as a symbol of peace.
