The United States Mint offers three choices for those who want to collect modern Morgan Silver Dollars. In 2023, after a year off, the bullion Morgan Silver Dollar is available again. The US Mint has uncirculated and proof coins, as well as a two-coin set with a special reverse design. The release of the 2023 Proof Morgan Dollars by the San Francisco Mint is a special tribute. The San Francisco Mint was one of only two mints to issue the original Morgan Dollar each year. The Philadelphia Mint was the only other branch mint to strike the coins annually from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921.
The 2023-S Proof Morgan Silver Dollars available here have frosted designs and mirrored backgrounds. These coins received the highest grade, PR70, from the PCGS, which means they're flawless and have full, original mint luster. Additionally, each coin is a First Strike specimen. This indicates the coin was received within 30 days of issue to be graded.
On the obverse of the 2023-S Proof Morgan Dollars, you'll see a picture of Lady Liberty facing left. This design was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan and shows Liberty with a cap and crown.
The reverse of the 2023 Proof Morgan Silver Dollar shows a picture of a bald eagle. This design, also by George T. Morgan, shows the eagle facing forward with its wings spread, holding arrows and an olive branch.
