The Morgan Silver Dollar first appeared in 1878 and was the last US silver dollar widely used. It was minted every year until 1904, then again in 1921 after a 17-year pause in production. The 1921 release was the last one before the US Mint brought back the coin in 2021 to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
The obverse of the 2023-S Proof Morgan Dollars features the original 1878 design by George T. Morgan. It shows Liberty's profile with a cap on her head, along with a laurel wreath and a crown.
