The United States Mint revived two of its most coveted historical designs in 2021. In honor of the centennial of the final Morgan Dollar and the first Peace Dollar in 1921, the US Mint revived both designs on modern silver bullion coins. In 1921, the United States Mint resumed silver dollar production after a 17-year hiatus. The last silver dollar issued was in the Morgan Dollar Series and it came in 1904. As silver dollar coining resumed in 1921, the Morgan Dollar imagery was revived and struck throughout most of the year.
By December 1921, however, a new design was ready for production. The American public clamored for a new silver dollar design, other than the Morgan, that would reflect the hard-won peace of World War I. Anthony de Francisci’s designs of Liberty and the bald eagle were chosen for use on the new Peace Silver Dollar.
Lady Liberty features in left-profile relief on the obverse of 2023 Peace Dollars. This design shows the head of Liberty with a crown of radiant light on her head. The design includes hair that is flowing freely in the wind.
An American bald eagle is captured in the reverse design of the 2023 Peace Silver Dollar. This particular visual from de Francisci captures the coveted peace of World War I. The bald eagle is shown resting on an olive branch with its wings at its side as the sun rises in the distance. The field even includes an inscription of the word PEACE.
These 2023 Peace Silver Dollar Coins are available to you for purchase in MS70 condition from the CAC. The Mint State 70 grade indicates a coin that showcases full, original mint luster with no detractions present.
