Roughly half of the mountain gorilla population can be found in the Virunga Mountain range bordering Congo, Uganda, and Rwanda. This subspecies of the eastern gorilla was discovered in 1902 and has since endured decades of disease, war, and habitat loss. As such, many wondered if the population would survive into the new century. But though the subspecies remains Endangered, its numbers have more than doubled since 2010 thanks to the tireless efforts of conservationists and activists.
These 2023 Rwandan Mountain Gorilla Coins were struck at Mayer Mint on behalf of the National Bank of Rwanda. Each piece boasts a .999 purity level and is considered Brilliant Uncirculated.
