When the Proof Silver Libertad became an annual series in 1986, the 1 oz silver coin was the only option available to collectors. The first expansion of the series came in 1992 when fractional-ounce coins debuted, but these 2 oz coins didn’t join the series until 1996 when the Mexican Mint debuted this weight alongside a 5 oz silver coin.
All 2023 2 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available for purchase with individual plastic capsules. The proof coins in this series feature frosted design elements and lettering overlaying mirrored background fields for visual contrast.
The obverse of 2023 Proof Mexican Silver Libertads comes with an image of the modern coat of arms. The Mexican coat of arms is featured here along with 10 historic versions of the seal around the border of the design. All of the versions of the seal shown here are based on the seal at the top of the field, a 1524 design from the Codex Mendoza.
On the reverse side of the 2023 2 oz Proof Silver Libertad Coins, you will find an image of Winged Victory. The design shown here is based on the statue at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column at the center of Mexico City.
