The Emu is a flightless bird native to Australia. It belongs to the ratite group, which includes ostriches, rheas, kiwis, and cassowaries. Emus are believed to have originated from a common ancestor that lived around 80 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period.
In the obverse design of the 2023 Australian Silver Emu Coin, the mint features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Known as the memorial design, this bust of Her Late Majesty is Jody Clark’s 2015 design with the inclusion of memorial 1952-2022 dates to capture her record-breaking reign.
