The Angel of Independence is a neoclassical victory column that stands at a height of approximately 36 meters (118 feet). Here, Victory is found standing at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column.
The column is adorned with intricate decorative elements, including sculptural reliefs and allegorical figures, representing various aspects of Mexican history and culture. The monument is strategically located at the intersection of two major thoroughfares in Mexico City: Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Insurgentes.
On the obverse of the 2023 1/4 oz Proof Gold Libertad Coin is a vision of the coat of arms of Mexico. This design shows a prickly pear cactus with a golden eagle perched on the arm of the cactus as it battles a serpent. Beneath this imagery, there is a wreath of oak and laurel.
