Though issued by the Somalian government, the Somalia Elephant Series is produced in Germany by The Bavarian State Mint. This historic mint dates back to 1158 AD and has overseen the production of the series since it began. While the Somalia collection began in 2004, the elephant series as a whole can be traced back to 1999, when it was backed by Zambia.
