Hasbro’s toy line The Transformers, based on robots who could transform into vehicles and all sorts of other secondary shapes, was based on an idea that began with the Diaclone toys from Japan in the early Eighties. It would, however, go on to become a major phenomenon of modern media all its own, with a near-endless variety of television shows, animated features, and even blockbuster Michael Bay movies all inspired by one of the most popular toy lines of all time. It all began with a cartoon and an accompanying line of toys in 1984, the original Transformers animated show that won a near-fanatical young audience. The second character ever to appear on that show was a Transformer named Bumblebee, commemorated on the 2022 1 oz Proof Niue Colorized Silver Transformers Bumble Bee Coin.

The Transformers were designed around the story of a war between good-guy robots (the Autobots, who transformed into cars) and bad-guy robots (the Decepticons, who transformed into planes and other things). In the 1984 animated show, one of the original and most important Autobots was Bumblebee, who met and formed a friendship with a young human who would become the audience’s window into the robotic war that had come to Earth from a far-off mechanical planet called Cybertron.
The 2022 Proof Niue Colorized Silver Transformers Bumble Bee Coin captures the bright and colorful spirit of those cartoons set against the brilliant mirror-like finish of a proof-quality silver collectible. It ships in vividly colorful themed box packaging, protected by an acrylic capsule, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity that specifies your coin’s unique number in the mintage.
The obverse side features the famous effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II created by Ian Rank-Broadley, confirming it as legal tender. This is surrounded by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE,” “TWO DOLLARS,” and “2022.”
The reverse side features Bumblebee just as he appears on the show, set beside an engraved and frosted Transformers logo. The number “1984” is inscribed in the foreground.
