The obverse of 2022 EC8 Silver Dominica Mountain Chicken Coins features Queen Elizabeth II in portrait. Her Late Majesty ruled Britain and the Commonwealth nations from 1952 until her passing in 2022 at the age of 96. In this portrait, we see the Queen facing right and wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
On the reverse of 2022 1 oz EC8 Silver Dominica Coins, there is a mountain chicken design. In this rendering, the beloved frog faces to the right as it rests atop a rocky surface. The reverse also features inscriptions reading The Mountain Chicken, Dominica, 2022.
Despite its slightly misleading name, the mountain chicken is in fact a species of frog. Extremely popular in Dominica, this frog is nonetheless on the brink of extinction due to hunting, loss of habitat, and invasive species. Also central to their destruction was the development of a dangerous fungus harmful to amphibians.
