The 2021 American Silver Eagle is the first release in the history of the series to offer two different versions in one year. That is occurring because the US Mint is also changing one of the design elements for the first time in the history of the series. Through roughly the first half of 2021, all 2021 Silver Eagles feature the original design combinations. Come midyear, 2021 Silver Eagles will be released with the new design of an American bald eagle on the reverse.
All of these 2021 (S) 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins bear the original design combinations and come with a PCGS certification. Mint State 69 coins have full, original mint luster and no more than two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin. The included First Strike designation means the coins were received for grading within 30 days of the initial release.
Walking Liberty features on the obverse of these 2021 (S) American Silver Eagle Coins. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, this image of Liberty featured first on the US Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947 and has been on the obverse of the Silver Eagle bullion coin since 1986.
Appearing for the final time in this series, the heraldic eagle graces the reverse side of 2021 (S) Silver Eagle Coins. The image of the bald eagle supporting the US national shield was modernized for this series in 1986 by John Mercanti.
These 2021 American Silver Eagle Coins are products of the San Francisco Mint, but do not bear an “S” mint mark. San Francisco supplies supplemental coining to the West Point production line and ships coins in Monster Boxes with straps and serial numbers that identify the specimens as having originated in San Francisco.
