The Proof American Silver Eagle has experienced a lot of variety in recent years. Since 2018, the US Mint has issued the standard W-Proof American Silver Eagle alongside a low-mintage S-Proof Silver Eagle struck at the San Francisco Mint. Weinman, this effigy of Liberty captures her full-length figure in left-profile relief. She is shown walking toward the sun on the horizon with her right hand outstretched and her left hand carrying the branches of oak and laurel.

The reverse side of the 2020-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle comes with the heraldic eagle design. Modified for this series in 1986 by John Mercanti, this heraldic eagle shows the American bald eagle in front-facing relief as it supports the US national shield. The bird clutches the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other. Above its head is a cluster of 13 stars in a triangular formation.
