The African Wildlife Series of silver coins started as a Zambian issue with images of the African bush elephant on the reverse each year. This series launched in 1999 and was one of the early adopters of the practice of using new images on the reverse field with each coin in the series. When the mint expanded to offer these African Wildlife Leopard coins in 2018, the same concept was put into use in this series.

Of the total mintage of 30,000 coins in this year’s release, 5,000 were released by an authorized third-party dealer with colorized visuals on the reverse field.

On the obverse of the 2020 Colorized Somalia African Wildlife Leopard Coins is a depiction of the national coat of arms. This seal includes a shield that is crowned along the top with a single star at the center set against a background field of horizontal lines. The shield is supported from each side by a leopard with spears and fern leaves crossed beneath.
