Each 2018 10 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast Dragon Coin available to you in this product listing earned the near-perfect certification of the NGC. The 2018 10 oz Silver Dragon Coin in the Queen’s Beast collection is the third design released in the new 10 oz silver weight. Silver coins in this collection debuted with the 2 oz Silver Lion of England coin in 2016, and when the collection expanded in 2017 to feature these 10 oz silver coins the Royal Mint went back through its already released designs in order to re-release in 10 oz weights.
On the reverse of the 2018 10 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast Dragon Coin is the image of the Red Dragon of Wales. The red dragon comes to the royal arms through Owen Tudor, the man whose son would become King Henry VII and who claimed Welsh heritage as his own. The House of Tudor ruling monarchs are named for Owen Tudor.
The Red Dragon of Wales originated long before this as a powerful, wise creature believed to belong to the legendary king of Gwynedd in Wales. The coat of arms that accompanies the Red Dragon in this coin design comes from Llewelyn ap Griffith, the last native Welsh prince to hold the title Prince of Wales.
On the obverse is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin’s obverse field has the 2015 fifth-generation portrait of Her Majesty created by the Royal Mint’s Jody Clark. These coins have the guilloche background which delivers a visual similar to braided ribbons.
