Burnished American Silver Eagle coins are all produced at the West Point Mint, and have been since their introduction in the American Eagle lineup in 2006. Burnished coins are loaded into circulating drums that polish the blanks before they are struck for a beautiful finish to the visuals of the coin.
Every step in the process is taken with great care. US Mint employees remove the blanks from the drum one by one wearing gloves to prevent tarnishes or oil from human skin leaving blemishes on the coins. The coins are then loaded one at a time into the coining press, and again removed one at a time with gloved hands.
Your 2017-W Burnished American Silver Eagle coin from this listing arrives in a blue United States Mint display box that helps protect your purchase for years to come. The coins include a numbered Certificate of Authenticity that validates your product.
On the obverse of the 2017-W Burnished American Silver Eagle coin, you’ll find the iconic Walking Liberty design from Adolph A. Weinman. Created in 1916, it originally featured on the US Half-Dollar coin until 1947 and was one of two designs from Weinman that year, the other being the Mercury Dime.
The reverse of all 2017-W Burnished American Silver Eagle coins includes the modern interpretation of the heraldic eagle of the United States. Modified and refined in 1986 by John Mercanti, then Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, this design has been used in some form on US coinage since 1794.
Burnished American Silver Eagle coins are produced by the United States Mint’s West Point Mint facility, as noted by the “W” mint mark. These coins were introduced in 2006, but not available in 2009 or 2010 because of the intense demand for the bullion version of the American Silver Eagle coin.
