Each year the Bavarian State Mint releases a new design in the Somalia Elephant Series. This pattern has been followed since the coins were introduced in 2004, resulting in a long history of unique and brilliant designs.
For 2017, the Bavarian State Mint is also continuing with the release of beautiful high-relief proof strikings of the popular Somalia Silver Elephant coin. High-relief coins are struck on blanks under immense pressure, which creates a brilliant 3D design field on the surface of the coin.
The obverse side of the 2017 1 oz Somalia Silver Elephant high relief proof coin bears the all-new elephant design for the series. It features a large elephant in the foreground standing amidst the tall grass of the Savannah, with a small hut and single palm tree featured in the background.
On the reverse of all 2016 Somalia Silver Elephant coins you’ll notice the coat of arms for Somalia. The national crest features a singular star on a background of horizontal lines on the heraldic shield of the country. Engravings of the nation of issue, face value, and year of issue are visible on this side.
Your 2017 1 oz Somalia Silver Elephant high relief proof coin ships to you in a beautiful display box with a glass lid so you can see your coin at all times. Included is a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
