The Perth Mint has limited the production of 2017 Year of the Rooster gold coins to just three weights in total, with a three-coin set also available. The 2017 1/10 oz Proof Australian Gold Rooster coin and the ¼ oz coin have a maximum total mintage of 8,000 coins, while the 1 oz. weight has a maximum total mintage of 6,000 coins.
Just a fraction of those mintage numbers will be released for individual purpose, with 1,500 of each coin reserved for a limited-edition 3-coin proof set. These 2017 1/10 oz Proof Australian Gold Rooster Coins are the smallest weight available.
The obverse of all 2017 Proof Australian Gold Rooster Coins features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, this image is surrounded by engravings of the nation of issue, year of issue, face value, and Her Majesty’s name, as well as the coin’s weight, purity, and metal content.
