American Gold Eagle coins were originally available in bullion and proof versions only. An uncirculated, or burnished, coin was introduced in 2006 on the 20th anniversary of the coin series’ introduction. Each year, the coins are struck in 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz versions. These 1/10 oz coins are now the most popular weight in the program.
The 2017 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Coins in this listing are Mint State 69 specimens according to the NGC. Coins in this condition exhibit full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines, and found only outside the primary focal areas of the coin.
Early Release coins from the NGC were received by the depository or an approved third-party location within the first 30 days of the 2017 issue date set by the United States Mint for American Gold Eagles.
On the obverse of the 2017 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Coins is the iconic image of Lady Liberty from the $20 Gold Double Eagle, which was minted from 1907 to 1933. President Theodore Roosevelt personally selected Augustus Saint-Gaudens to create the design, which helped reinvent American gold coin design.
The reverse of all 2017 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Coins features a design from modern artist Miley Busiek. Created in 1986 and used exclusively on the American Gold Eagle, Busiek’s depiction of a family of bald eagles includes a male eagle returning to the nest where a female closely guards a group of hatchlings.
All American Gold Eagle Coins are a product of the United States Mint, and bullion coinage is entirely conducted at the West Point Mint facility in the state of New York.
