The Birds of Prey series of silver coins from the Royal Canadian Mint was one of its most popular in recent memory. Featuring four stunning images of aerial predators found across Canada and throughout North America, the coins sold out quickly following release. Right now, the first of a new series is available as the 2016 1 oz Canadian Silver Peregrine Falcon Reverse Proof arrives at JM Bullion.

Original Birds of Prey coins were released for the first time in February 2014, and ran through August 2015. The four-coin series featured the Peregrine Falcon, Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk, and Great Horned Owl. Emily Damstra, who first came to fame at the mint with the final two designs of the Canadian Wildlife Series, designed all four coins in the original series.
The Birds of Prey Reverse Proof Series is sure to sell out fast. While all designs in the previous series sold out quickly, the higher mintage of one million coins for each design meant supplies lasted longer. The Royal Canadian Mint has limited production in the reverse proof series to just 100,000 coins.
As a reverse proof, these specimens have a finish that is opposite the standard proof. On these coins you’ll find the mirrored finish on the design sets on both sides, while the background field boasts a strong, frosted finish.
Damstra’s Peregrine Falcon design from the original series returns on the reverse of each coin, while Susanna Blunt’s right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is visible on the obverse side of each coin.
As a PF69 product from the NGC, these coins exhibit full, original mint luster. However, you’ll also notice a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Ultra-cameo coins have immense contrast between the design set and background field. The Early Release designation is reserved for coins that arrive at the NGC within the first 30 days of the release date set by the Royal Canadian Mint.
