American Gold Buffalo coins were introduced in 2006 to compete with other 24-karat gold bullion coins. The Buffaloes’ largest competitor is the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf. While the American Gold Eagle is struck in 22-karat gold, Canada’s Gold Maple Leaf is struck with 24-karat gold.

The imagery on the American Gold Buffalo was originally created by James Earle Fraser in 1913 for use on the Indian Head Nickle that was produced from 1913 to 1938.

All the 2015 American Gold Buffalo Coins in this listing have a PF70 grade from the Numismatic Guaranty Company. Each coin also features an Ultra-cameo finish and is an early release edition of the coin.

The reverse side of the coin showcases Fraser’s depiction of Black Diamond, a famous bison that called New York City’s Central Park Zoo home during the early 20th century. The obverse side shows his depiction of a Native American chieftain. The image is a combination of three different portraits of real Native American leaders.
