Somalia Silver Elephant coins were first introduced in 2004 as part of the African Wildlife Series. Although the coins are produced for the nation of Somalia, the coin’s status as legal tender in that nation remains questionable because of the precarious political situation within the country.
Nevertheless, investors and collectors covet these coins for various reasons. Investors purchase them for the .999 pure silver metal content, while numismatists appreciate the changing design features on the reverse side.
Adding to the value of these particular 2015 1 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Coins is the antique finish used during production. Modern coining processes allow the Bavarian State Mint to produce modern coins that feature an antique appearance, which are usually warm and subtle accents that add depth and character to the design of the coin.
On the reverse side of these coins is the latest image in the African Wildlife Series motif. An adult female leads her young calf across the open savannas of Africa as a flock of birds flies overhead. Engravings on this side include “African Wildlife,” “Elephant,” and the coin’s weight, metal content, and purity.
The obverse side features the coat of arms for the Republic of Somalia. Engravings include the phrase “Somali Republic” above, the year of minting on either side of the seal, and the face value below.
One of Germany’s oldest mints, the Bavarian State Mint is located in Munich and is a state-owned entity of the Free State of Bavaria. The mint was originally founded in 1158.

“I just received this beauty of a coin. Big fan of the elephants, but this is my first antique finish one. The coin is awesome and the COA says they only minted 3000. Also, JM’s service was, as always top notch. Great product from a great company. Thanks JM.”
