With 2015 marking the Lunar Year of the Goat according to the Chinese Zodiac, the Perth Mint has released its newest offering in the Lunar Series 2. These coins celebrate the new Lunar Year with the image of a lone goat standing atop rocky terrain. The goat has its head turned pointed towards the viewer and boasts large horns. Aside the goat is the Chinese inscription for “goat” while below the animal the word “Year of the Goat” are inscribed.
The obverse of each 2015 1 oz Australian Gold Goat Coin features the artwork of Ian Rank-Broadley, as is commonly seen on Australian currency. In Rank-Broadley’s portrait, the queen is turned in profile and is wearing a tiara. The coin’s weight, purity, minting year and face value are all listed along the bottom of the coin. To the top of the queen, both her name and the country’s name are listed.
