The Buffalo Nickel’s designs were revived in 2006 for the Gold Buffalo, making the 2013 release special across the board as it came on the 100th anniversary of the debut of the Buffalo Nickel.
The obverse side of the 2013-W 1 oz Proof Gold Buffalo Coin comes with a depiction of an indigenous figure. This right-profile relief was designed by Fraser in 1913 by combining the facial features of three real-life leaders from indigenous tribes in 20th-century America.
