The Burnished American Silver Eagle coin is the latest entry in the long-running coin program that started in 1986. Uncirculated coins struck specifically with an eye toward stunning designs, the Burnished American Silver Eagle features the same design as the bullion and proof coins in a brilliant finish worthy of display or exhibition by numismatics. Today, you can purchase a 2012 Burnished American Silver Eagle coin from JM Bullion with a perfect MS70 grade from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
An MS70, or Mint State 70, grade from the NGC identifies a coin as a perfectly struck product with no contact marks or other flaws visible on its surface. The coins available in this listing are individually sealed and packaged inside durable plastic cases. These particular coins include an NGC label that bears the face value and grade of the coin, as well as its individual serial number.
The American Silver Eagle program was introduced in 1986 following passage of the Liberty Coin Act. Burnished American Silver Eagles were first produced in 2006 on the 20th anniversary of the coin program. All burnished coins in the series are struck at the US Mint’s West Point Mint facility, and bear a “W” mint mark as an indicator of origin.
On the obverse side of the burnished coins is Adolph A. Weinman’s classic Walking Liberty image. Featured walking toward the setting sun, Lady Liberty is draped in an American flag and carrying oaken branches in her left hand. The reverse side features John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle. Mercanti, a chief engraver at the US Mint, was commissioned to create his image specifically for the American Silver Eagle.
The United States Mint entrusts the production of burnished coins to the West Point Mint. Only one other mint has ever produced a burnished coin. The San Francisco Mint struck a burnished coin in 2011 which was included in the 25th anniversary American Silver Eagle five-coin set.
