The American Southwest has a long history as a foreboding place to live. The region was characterized by cultural clashes between American settlers and Native American tribes. Today, the region’s Pueblo tribes (among others) are remembered at the Chaco Culture National Historic Park. You can now purchase a 2012 5 oz ATB Chaco Culture Silver Coin from JM Bullion as part of the America the Beautiful coin series.
Coin Highlights:
Located on 33,977 acres of land in the state of New Mexico, the Chaco Culture National Historic Park holds the densest population of pueblos in America’s southwest. The first tribes to call the region home arrived around 10,000 BC. By 900 AD, the area had become a major hub for cultural exchange among Ancient Pueblo Peoples.
As part of the America the Beautiful coin series, the 2012 5 oz ATB Chaco Silver Coin represents New Mexico in the 56-coin series. Each year the United States Mint released five new coins that honor monuments and moments from American history. The series was introduced in 2010, and is scheduled to run through 2021.
On the reverse side of the coin is the image of the Great Kiva of Chetro Ketl in the park. Engravings on this side of the coin read “New Mexico,” “Chaco Culture,” and “E Pluribus Unum.” The obverse side bears the imagery commonly found on circulation US quarters. The left-profile bust of President George Washington is featured in the middle, along with common American phrases “Liberty” and “In God We Trust.”
The United States Mint installed a new German-made coining press in 2009 at the Philadelphia Mint to produce America the Beautiful coins. Each of the coins in this listing are in near-perfect condition, and feature a deeply-mirrored, proof-like finish.
