One of the most beautiful designs from the New Zealand Mint was the Fiji Taku coin. In addition to the impressive design features of the coin, investors and collectors sought out these particular products because of their high purity levels and low mintage numbers. Today, the 2011 1 oz New Zealand Silver $2 Fiji Taku coin is available from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
- Contains 1 oz of .999 pure silver.
- Bears a face value of $2 (Fiji).
- Honors the endangered Hawksbill sea turtle.
- Graded a near-perfect MS69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
- Available in an NGC plastic slab for protection.
Hawksbill turtles are so named because of their narrow, pointed beaks. One of the most distinguishing features of the turtle is its brightly colored shell with a distinctive pattern of overlapping scales. These sea turtles are common throughout the South Pacific, and often congregate in the waters off of Fiji during mating season.
Each of the coins available to you through this product listing is available in Mint State 69 condition. Coins in this grade have their full, original luster, and no more than two minor detracting flaws or small contact marks. These blemishes are not located within the primary focal areas of the coin’s surface.
On the reverse side of each coin is the hawksbill sea turtle as it swims through the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. The ornately designed shell of the turtle is visible as it swims through bubbles in the water, and the coin has a matte finish. Engravings include “Fiji Taku” and the weight, metal content, and purity of the coin.
The obverse bears Queen Elizabeth II’s right-profile portrait. This image was created by Ian Rank-Broadley, and engravings accompanying her effigy include “Elizabeth II,” “Fiji,” “Two Dollars,” and the year of minting.
The New Zealand Mint is a private mint operating out of Auckland. The facility handles production of circulation and commemorative coins, as well as medals, for numerous nations throughout the South Pacific.
