For the obverse of 2007 1/2 oz US Mint First Spouse Coins, there is a portrait of Lady Liberty. Here, she faces right with a ribbon tied in her flowing hair. Inscriptions read Liberty, In God We Trust, 2007 3rd Presidency, 1801-1809.
Upon the reverse side of 2007 Jefferson’s Liberty Gold Coins the monument of Thomas Jefferson is shown. This monument includes inscriptions reading “Here was buried Thomas Jefferson: author of the Declaration of American Independence, of the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom and father of the University of Virginia.”
Born in 1743, Thomas Jefferson inherited both land and high social status from his parents. He later studied at William and Mary before pursuing a law career. Though lacking in oratory skills, Jefferson was a gifted writer. His skills with the pen were initially put to use at the Virginia House of Burgesses and the Continental Congress. Then, at the mere age of 33, Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence, which was adopted on July 4, 1776, and signed the following month.
