In 2006, the American Silver Eagle from the United States Mint hit one of its first major milestones with its 20th-anniversary release. The 2006 release of American Silver Eagles featured various options to suit the occasion. Not only were the traditional BU and Proof coins sold individually to buyers, but so too was the new Burnished Silver Eagle. Additionally, the US Mint offered a three-coin set with a W-Burnished Silver Eagle, W-Proof Silver Eagle, and a P-Reverse Proof Silver Eagle, the latter of which was only available in the set.
All 2006-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagle Coins listed here are near-perfect specimens. Coins with a Mint State 69 grade have full, original mint luster and come with no more than two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws are limited in nature to only minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin.
On the obverse of 2006-W Burnished American Silver Eagles is the effigy of Walking Liberty. Designed in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this beautiful image shows Liberty in left-profile relief walking toward the sun on the horizon. As she holds out her right hand, her left hand carries branches of oak and laurel as she wears the American flag draped around her figure. The sun rises over the mountain peak on the horizon.
The reverse side of 2006-W 1 oz Burnished Silver Eagles features an image known as the heraldic eagle of the United States. One of the nation’s oldest coin designs still in use today, the heraldic eagle was modified for this series by John Mercanti. It features a front-facing bald eagle supporting the US National Shield with the arrows of war and olive branch of peace in its talons. Additionally, there is a triangular cluster of 13 stars over its head.
