The Swedish Gold Kronor was Sweden’s version of the British Gold Sovereign. However, compared to the widespread Gold Sovereign, the Swedish Kronor was issued for a shorter period of time and geographically limited in its use. Today, remaining specimens from this series are scarce. Now, 20 Kronor Sweden Gold Coins in XF+ condition are available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The 20 Kronor Sweden Gold Coin was introduced by the Swedish Royal Mint from 1877 to 1902. The coins were available throughout the entirety of the reign of King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway, who reigned from 1872 until his death in 1907. During his reign, the coins featured two different portraits.
Like many other gold coins of the day, the 20 Kronor Sweden Gold Coin was a 90% gold specimen with a balance of copper for durability in circulation use. It is estimated that only 3.4 million of these coins were ever struck by the Swedish Royal Mint. The coins were produced in two different series: 1877-1899 and 1900-1902. The differentiation between these two releases comes in the form of the obverse design.
King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway is found on the obverse side of 20 Kronor Sweden Gold Coins. The coins issued in the first series from 1877 to 1899 feature a portrait of a young King Oscar II, while the final series from 1900-1902 came with a portrait of an aging Oscar II.
Sweden’s coat of arms is depicted in the reverse design of 20 Kronor Sweden Gold Coins. The draped shield in the Swedish coat of arms is topped by a crown and quartered. In the first and fourth quadrants are Sweden’s three open crowns, with a rampant, crowned lion in the second and third quadrants. The shield is supported on either side by lions.
These 20 Kronor Sweden Gold Coins are available with plastic flips for shipping. Each one is in Extremely Fine-plus condition. This indicates a coin that has only light wear and tear on the highest points of the relief. There may be some traces of the original mint luster. Please note that we do not guarantee the date mark and obverse design on the coin you receive. Buying multiples can result in receiving coins with matching dates and designs or various dates and designs.
