Thoroughbred racing fans often cite 1973 as the greatest year for the beloved sport. In May and June of that year, the most famous racehorse of all time achieved a truly rare feat: by emerging victorious at the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes, Secretariat won the coveted Triple Crown. What’s especially remarkable is that for the last race at Belmont, the legendary racehorse won by a record-setting margin of 31 lengths.
