Inspired by the politician Harvey Milk, activists Gilbert Baker, Lynn Segerblom, and James McNamara collaborated on a flag to represent the LGBT movement. Ultimately, the rainbow flag was chosen to reflect the broad spectrum of human identity. While the flag originally had 8 colors, today it is generally depicted in the classic rainbow arrangement of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
