In 2019, the United States marked the 100^th anniversary of the establishment of Grand Canyon National Park as an official part of the National Park Service under the protection of the federal government. On February 26, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Grand Canyon National Park Act into law, formally establishing the protected status of the park. The recently established National Park Service, founded in 1916, assumed the duties of administering the park under its authority.
