Each of the 1994 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coins you’ll find here today come with a perfect PF70 certification. The NGC issues a PF70 grade to coins that exhibit full, original mint luster with a complete lack of detracting flaws in the design elements and the surface area of the coin.
With the issuance of an ultra-cameo designation, the NGC highlights the fact that these coins have incredible visual brilliance. The UCAM label is for coins with contrasting strong, frosted designs and background fields which are deeply-mirrored and clear.
The 1994 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coin experienced the largest mintage figure among the four coins for the year, but had the second-largest increase in mintage. Its 62,849-coin mintage was roughly 15,000 more than any other individual weight, but it increased roughly 4,200 from its 1993 mintage compared to the 1 oz coin which grew by more than 12,000 coins from 1993 to 1994.
On the obverse of the coins, you’ll find the iconic image of Liberty which Augustus Saint-Gaudens created in 1907. This design originally featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle and was modified for these coins to include a total of 50 stars in the design field around Liberty. When first issued, the design had only 46 stars and was updated to 48 in 1912, but went out of circulation in 1933 before Alaska and Hawaii joined the Union.
The reverse face of all Proof American Gold Eagle coins includes Miley Busiek’s design of the bald eagle. In this case, it’s a design which includes an entire family of bald eagles. As a male flies overhead, a female stands guard over a group of hatchlings in a nest.
