One of the most popular gold coins in the world is the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf. Debuting in 1979, it’s among the first gold bullion coins to be made widely available for purchase. A few years later in 1982, these coins were upgraded from .999 gold to .9999 gold. The Royal Canadian Mint also introduced a few fractional weight options. Among them was the 1982 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin. This coin is available for purchase now, at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf debuted in 1979 with just a 1 oz version. At the time, the only other gold bullion on the market was the South African Krugerrand. However, the Krugerrand was not widely available to collectors and investors. In 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint introduced a 1/4 oz along with a 1/10 oz. A 1/2 oz gold coin made its debut in 1986, followed by a 1/20 oz in 1993.
The obverse field of the 1982 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coin features Queen Elizabeth II. This depiction of Her Majesty is shown in right-profile relief at the age of 39. This Arnold Machin depiction was first used on Canadian coins in 1965. Identifying marks of the coin are featured above and below this effigy.
The reverse side of the 1982 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin showcases the Maple Leaf design. This image is a symbol of pride and nationalism for Canadians. This well-known image was created by Walter Ott and has remained largely unchanged since the debut of the coin program.
