From 1936 to 1964, the United States Mint issued Proof Sets of its circulation coins for collectors. Proof Sets offer circulation coin denominations with proof strikes that deliver greater visual brilliance. Right now, 1960 US Mint Proof Sets are available for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Set Highlights:
Each 1960 US Mint Proof Set comes with a total of five coins. Included in the sealed cellophane packaging are a US penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and half dollar. The coins remain in good overall condition. However, please note that you may receive coin sets that show wear and tear on the cellophane. It is also possible the sets could be missing the outer envelope.
In 1960, the US dime, quarter, and half dollar still featured 90% silver content. Each of those coins in this set have 90% silver with 10% copper. The set includes the designs of the Lincoln Penny, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and the Franklin Half Dollar.
The youngest coin design in this set is the Franklin Half Dollar. It was introduced in 1948 to replace the Walking Liberty Half Dollar design and was discontinued in 1963 in favor of the modern Kennedy Half Dollar, a coin introduced just months after President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in November 1963.
